Malard hen
2005.03.19 Horseshoe Lake
Ya, it is just a duck. But I am having fun with my new camera. It is a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ20

Bald eagle
Haliaeetus leucocephalus
adult
Here is the tree that the eagle was in.
2007.01 Tree is at the south end of runway.
This tree is destined to be famous, sence the Hooker Oak Tree fell down about 20 years ago.
2005.03.24
It is very difficult to get hawks along side of roads: They always put their backs to the sun and you can not ever get face detail. The best you can do is to have a hazy day with no sun direction.
But these pictures are compromised and disappointing.

Scrub Jay
Western scrub-jay Aphelocoma californica
I was ready with the camera while he was preoccupied making noise in a bush.
As soon as he popped out, I was in position and ready. Great picture.
Species: Dog Tick
|
This is the third tick from which I have been bit. Each time it is only $5.00 at
the Dept of Public Health. Just for the peace of mind, it costs nothing.
The first was at work on a hill outside RedBluff. It had attached itself inside my
belly button. Talk about surprised.
( It tested positive for the type of tick (Ixodes pacificus), but negitive for Lyme.)
This tick shown is a female Dermacentor variabilis (Dog Tick). It is not the type
that transmitts Borrelia Burgdorferi (organism for Lyme disease)
Jumping Spider
|
2007.03.18
This beautiful spider (and others) are at my house.
Spider is very alert. Spider is an "active" predator and is aggressive.
This type of spider has not yet bit me when handled. And it
does not make a bunch of messy webs. Facinating creature. It stalks and hunts.
A male bird
|
This couple raised chicks right above my car, one unlooking dog, and one stray cat.
Female mate looks like a sparrow.
