WESTERN YEW:
Taxus brevifolia:
Leaves
Needles are about 1 inch long, and very sharp. Needles are arranged in two rows on twig.
Cones:
I own seven acres here and several 15 ft YEW trees. Most of my trees are only 10ft tall. They produce beautiful translucent red berries. Berries are sparcly populated on the trees, and require much
effort to pick. Some trees did not bear.
Years later, the bark was found to have a compound that could fight cancer.
