This is the "Plantation". Each time we come to Maui, we never miss the Plantation. This is one of our very favorite places. Linda loves the gift shop, and we can have a bite to eat too. We can even ride a tour around the groves.

The back side of the building opens to the beautiful grounds. There are lots of different colored gekos here, if you are into that kind of thing. There is even a pet State goose, which I did not see this trip.
Cloud shadows come across the grass, as ocean air blows through the palms.
Queen Victoria in Lahaina port. There are many small shuttles from the mother ship at anchor, to Lahaina. They go back and forth. Hundreds of tourists temporarily swell the town.
If you like lots of people, and lots of tourists shops, Lahaina is for you.
I have a small problem of downtown Lahaina. Crowds make me nervous. I do not like the confusion, which everyone else seems to likes.I don't like the partying. In fact, I despise it. But everyone else likes it.
All my life I seem to be different. In fact, it is to the extreme: I think that other people are a different species.I strain my brain to figure out what in evolution would reward such behavior. Crowded places make me want to run.Perhaps, in my bones, I feel there could be starvation, limited resources, or something. That would explain my fear. But it does not explain their motivation. These partyers are like gyrating molecules. What good are they?
"God wasted integence on the young."
My Dad
Lahaina is a debase place. It reminds me of a slum overran with cockroaches.College kids can't ride mopeds. They stick their legs out trying to stop, or dangerously swinging wide in turns. And no helmets!I do not like loud drunk college kids. This is the exact opposite of paradise.
Here is my Dad, and he had a favorite saying: "God wasted intelegence on the young." I believe, my feelings are genetic. I feel the same as him. Dad is not here, so if I turn this around, and place Dad in Lahaina, by the laws of genetics, he would feel the same.
Some buildings are dilapidated with sloping floors, made of wooden planking, and way over legal capacities on occupants. It is passed off as island ambiance or rustic charm. It is negligence, rife with code violations!I did not come to Maui to see mainland faces. That is why I left.I would rather see brown skinned, respectful, Nature lovers. They are loving people, and I love them and their home.
Sorry, this has turned out to be a rant about what is wrong with me. Everyone else is OK with it; and that is - by diffenition - the Norm.
Not as big as Queen Victoria. But we got a free cruse on the FourWinds.

Don't step on these doves, as they are very tame.If you leave your door open they will come inside and search around on the floor.
There are also sparrows. And they behave differently! They are aggressive, and are little food thieves, stealing food right off your table.
I can not believe this dove is actually considering eating toenails!
Dirt in a sugar field. Beach Sand in Kihei is speckled cinnamon, and fine powder. Beach Sand in Wailua is darker tan to copper, and fine. No beach sand in February will burn your bare feet as it will in summer. At most only warm. Beach Sand in Hana can be black and course.
Grey Francolin? These things are not tame. They run around like little turkeys or grouse. Fast and alert.
We are in the "High Country", on the side of the volcano Haleakala. To the left at the sea is Kihei. Further down is the marina.
I grew a Norfolk Pine at home. This looks just like it.
Yes, there are cactuses on Maui. Linda says it is "Cacti". But that is only because she is part Latin.
We had a Luau on the beach.
Later, after sundown: Linda and I loved personally meeting the Fire Dancers and Hula girls. Paradise with paradise-people. Beautiful people! They complete the island, and are part of it. For a week or two, we really are in paradise. "Touching", for both of us.
And a Luau dinner out near the beach in the pleasant breeze. A pig was buried and cooked in the sand with palm leaves. There was a ceremony as two Hawaiians carried the food on a stretcher with great display. Food was smorgy style with crazy selections. All good, but I have no idea what things are. Great food, great intertainment! What a way to spend the evening!
A walkway along the beach at dusk.
Linda almost cries, knowing we have to leave Maui.Tears of happiness. Together, but leaving a beautiful lost island in a far away place.
