Early Mesozoic
This tree uses much older methods of competion:
Leaves are acidic and help decompose surface liter. Most of the netrition for this tree
comes from the surface of the forest ground. However, with leaching these nutrients, as well
as mineral nutrients, are flushed deeper and out of reach of newer type competitors.
The bark flakes off to prevent parasitic vines.
This huge anchient tree requires verticle "peg" roots
for support.
Pollination is by wind
Seed dispersal is by wind
