Carolyn;Ben and I both loved the flower that you are talking about. We found it along side the road, in fields, and on the Palermo property. I do not know why; We just loved it. So much so, that when he died, I took his blood from his helmet, washed it out and poured it into a spot - a special spot - and planted a chicory. The chicory was doing great, and I looked at it every day. Every single day! Then one day - to my horror - a big grey squirrel came from nowhere and started eating my prized plant. But the plant was half gone. The squirrel kept returning. Its only mission in life was to run unto my property and run straight for the chicory. Nothing else! I could have shot the damn thing. I thought about it a lot. I had anger in my heart, and a twitchy gun finger. But Ben would not want me to hurt the squirrel. I had to put my own feelings aside, and try and sense what Ben would want. And by then the plant was gone anyway. To this day, I do not know who the plant was for: Ben, Me, or that damn squirrel. Sometimes I do not think Ben was very smart.
